The most emblematic among them is the famous Cathedral of Sibenik, one of the most daring architectural designs of the late Middle Ages, primarily linked to the local maestro Juraj Matejev Dalmatinac (George of Dalmatia).
Sibenik is now a tourist centre situated in the area where the best-indented archipelago in Europe blends into the ecologically most attractive tourist and recreational zone on the Croatian Adriatic. Vacationing in Sibenik makes a good stop for those seeking a more authentic view of Dalmatian life. A historical site which is a must see is Croatia's most glorious church, the Cathedral of St James. Sibenik is the birthplace of one of the greatest world basketball players Drazen Petrovic.
