The Amtrak Station Detroit Lakes is more than just a station to catch your train. Listed on The National Register of Historic Places since the 1980s, the station originally was part of The Northern Pacific Railroad during its heyday of providing transportation for Americans.

Now that Amtrak's taken over, the building is still well-maintained. Especially with ridership up in recent years, the station is downright bustling depending on the time of day. There's no ticket office, though, so travelers should be sure to get their tickets ahead of time.

The Amtrak Station Detroit Lakes is open from 1:45am until 4:00am each day, and sees trains on the Empire Builder Route. There is an enclosed waiting area for passengers, which is especially helpful during those cold winter days. There is also free parking for travelers.

A number of hotels are close to the station, including The Best Western Holland House and Suites, The America's Best Value Inn, and The Pine to Palm Hotel. The Washington Square Mall is also very close, if you need a snack.
