Amtrak Station Durand

Hotels near Amtrak Station Durand, Durand, United States .

Not every train station can boast that it has its own museum, especially small stations with limited service, but that is the case of the Durand Union Station, also known as the Grand Trunk Railway Station. While only 9,310 passengers passed through the station last year, it is an important part of the railway history of Michigan. Built in 1903 by the Detroit firm of Spier and Rohns, it used to be a busy station because the Grand Trunk and Ann Arbor railroads crossed at that location. At its peak, it serviced almost 3000 passengers and received more than 40 passenger trains daily. In 1971, the station was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Amtrak continues to provide intercity passenger rail service on the Blue Water route between Chicago and Port Huron, Michigan. The station building has no ticket office and is only open in the mornings and evenings, when trains pass through. There is no help with baggage at this station.

For train enthusiasts who want to relive the station´s past, the nearby Durand Union Station Michigan Railroad History Museum, open Tuesday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM, offers exhibits, actual train cars and memorabilia to please young and old alike.

Nearby lodging options include the Quality Inn, the Holiday Inn Flint Hotel, and the Residence Inn by Marriot.
