Train travel is one of the easiest ways to get around the Pacific Northwest, where a ride on the rails provides some scenic vistas impossible to reach by car and out of sight for those in planes. One of the busiest stops on Amtrak's Coast Starlight and Amtrak Cascades line is Amtrak Station Eugene in Eugene, Oregon.

Originally built for use by The Southern Pacific Railroad at the turn of the century, Amtrak Station Eugene was originally known as The Southern Pacific Passenger Depot. In fact, that's the name the station is listed under on The National Register of Historic Places. Amtrak Station Eugene underwent restoration in 2004, and is now one of the most lovingly preserved masonry depots still standing along The Southern Pacific Railroad's West Coast Line.

Located close to Eugene's bustling downtown on Willamette Street, the station has both a ticket office and a waiting area. There are restrooms and pay phones available for passenger use during station hours, and there's even the possibility of checking one's baggage. Additionally, in case of a rush, there's Quik-Track ticketing, where lines can be avoided.

Amtrak Station Eugene is open daily from 11:00pm until 12:45am and from 4:30am until 9:00pm. The ticketing office is open from 4:30am until 9:00pm. A number of downtown Eugene's hotels are just a short distance from the station, including The Campbell House Inn and Restaurant, The Courtesy Inn Eugene, and The Campus Inn.
