Amtrak Station Fredericksburg (Amtrak code FBG) is located at 200 Lafayette Street. Built in 1910, the station was originally the project of the Virginia Central Railroad and the Richmond Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroads. The Fredericksburg line of the Virginia Railway Express ends at the Amtrak station.

Fredericksburg is a stop along the Amtrak Carolinian Piedmont and Northeast Regional Routes. The Carolinian makes the trip from New York to Charlotte daily, with major stops in Philadelphia, DC, Baltimore, Raleigh and Richmond. The Piedmont travels from Raleigh to Charlotte.

Northeast Regional service goes from Boston and Springfield, Mass. and down the east coast to Newport News and Lynchburg in Virginia via New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC. Passengers can choose from local trains or express stops only, connecting from Washington (see Amtrak schedules). Fredericksburg lies between Washington’s Union Station and Richmond, one of the local stops.

Not a full service station, passengers cannot purchase tickets at Fredericksburg. There are no ticket office hours. Help with baggage is not available. There is no baggage check service.

Fredericksburg has many places of interest for Civil War historians and students. From the battlefields and artifacts to Confederate Cemeteries and former hospitals, the historical resources are extensive.
