Although Amtrak service was suspended in 2005, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Gulfport Amtrak Station of Gulfport Mississippi still stands. Once it laid along the Sunset Limited Amtrak route, extending from Orlando to Los Angeles. Today visitors can find the Gulfport Centennial Museum within the former station, as listed on the Mississippi State Department of Archives and History. In its earlier history the station also served the Louisville and Nashville Railroad as a Union Station- the building itself existing since the early 1900’s.
