Situated in the center of downtown Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the Hattiesburg Amtrak Station has served as the center for rail traffic in the city since 1910, when it was built by the now defunct Southern Railroad. In fact, Hattiesburg’s nickname, “Hub City”, is due in large part to its location relative multiple southern cities for rail traffic. Since Amtrak’s takeover of Southern in 1979, the Hattiesburg Station has served the Crescent Line, which stretches from New Orleans in the south, to New York City in the northeastern United States.

The station is within easy walking distance of the historic Citizens Bank Building, 206 Front Restaurant, and a short drive away from the University of Southern Mississippi campus. Ridership at the Hattiesburg Amtrak Station reached almost 10,000 passengers in 2008, showing six percent growth over the previous year.

The Hattiesburg Amtrak Station is located at 308 Newman Street downtown, and is open daily from 9:15 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. and again from 3:45 P.M. until 4:45 P.M. On-site parking is available free of charge, and the station does have a Quik-Trak self service ticket kiosk.
