Stadio Angelo Massimino is situated in the city of Catania, in the east of Sicily, Italy. Mostly used for football matches, although is a multi-use stadium, this is the home of Calcio Catania. Built in 1937 it has a capacity of 23,420 seats. Known as Cibali until 2002, the stadium inherited the current name after the former Catania chairman Angelo. Renovated in 1991 and 1997, the ground hosted 2 National games, versus Slovakia in 1998 and USA in 2002.
The roots of this football club can be traced to the year 1901 when a group of local sailors working on an English ship played their first match against Messina. In 2006 the team returned to Serie A after a break of 22 years, so the stadium Angelo received the visits of the most beloved teams in Italy such as AC Milan, Inter Milan or Juventus Torino. Violence is a phenomenon which is encountered increasingly often on many stadiums around the world and Angelo Massimino didn’t manage to escape of this stigma.
