Anne Frank House

Hotels near Anne Frank House, Amsterdam, Netherlands .

The Anne Frank House is situated on the Prinsengracht canal in Amsterdam. A dedicated museum to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank, the house which was once the hiding place for the Frank family during the 1940s to escape Nazi persecution, now acts as a museum that highlights the persecution and discrimination that was prevalent to Jews during the Nazi's rise to power. The Anne Frank House has been a museum since 1960 and is well known throughout the world. So much so that every year around a million visitors walk through the hallways of the Anne Frank House to learn about the story of the eight people who were in hiding and those who helped them during the war. Number 263 was built in the year 1635 by Dirk van Delft and would in the 20th century be regarded as a safe haven for a small group of Jews. On December 1st 1940, Anne Frank's father, Otto Frank, moved the companies he was working for, Opekta and Pectacon, from 400 Singel canal to Prinsengracht 263. The front of the building was in constant use for Otto Frank's business during business hours, while the doorway to the annex which was concealed behind a moveable bookcase, was the entrance to the secret annex for the Frank family, the Van Pels family and also for Fritz Pfeffer. Step back in time as you walk through the hallways of the Anne Frank House. Listen to the audio speakers as you enter each room and listen to Miep Gies as she explains what it was like in 1942 for the families in hiding. Watch film footage of an interview about Anne Frank's playfullness and walk through the old rooms no longer in use, but what still capture the feeling of being in hiding. For a short while you will experiencing what it is like to be blocked off from the outside world as the blackout curtains shut you away. Each of the rooms hold something different. Step into Anne Frank's bedroom and wonder at the preserved photos on the walls and marvel at the original objects on display in the downstairs museum, one of which is Anne Frank's diary. The experience is truly awe-inspiring. Opening times are daily from 9am. Admission prices for adults are €8.50; anyone 10-17 years of age €4.00 and for anyone 9 years and under admission is free. Amsterdam is a hub for tourists, which means that hotels and hostels are within easy reach and access of the Anne Frank House. Prices can range anywhere from as little as $50 to $240 per night depending on the star rating and where in Amsterdam you chose to stay. http://www.annefrank.org/content.asp?pid=1&lid=2
