Antwerp Central Station (Antwerpen-Centraal) is the main railway station in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. The station is managed by Infrabel. Station Antwerpen-Central was considered by the U.S. magazine Newsweek fourth most beautiful station in the world after the station of Saint Pancras, London, Grand Central Terminal in New York and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai.
Since March 2007, the work of the station and the redevelopment of lanes on three levels have created a direct link to the Netherlands via a tunnel under the railway station and the city. The first station was built between 1895 and 1905 to replace the terminus of the Brussels-Mechelen-Antwerp. The terminal, built in stone, covered with a large dome on the waiting room was designed by Louis Delacenserie, the structure covering the channels (185 meters long and 44 meters in high). The station is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of railway architecture in Belgium. The railway viaduct is also a remarkable work of art, designed by local architect Jan Van Asperen.
Two of the closest airports in the area are Deurne and Zaventem, located about 40 km away from the station. Tourists can enjoy some of the most beautiful and impressive monuments, museums, churches and other touristic attractions in this spot; such are: Zoo Antwerp, Aquatopia, Ecohouse Antwerp, Flemisch Opera, Atlantis Funparks, the Great Market Antwerp, Diamond Museum Antwerp, Antwerp City Park . The most popular area is the Theater Square and the fanciest shopping centers are Diamondland, Meir and De Keyserlei.
