Apollo Victoria Theatre

The Apollo Victoria Theatre is located on Wilton Road near Victoria station Westminster, London.

The building which houses the theatre was built in 1929 with two identical facades on Wilton and Vauxhall Bridge Roads. The construction is made principally of concrete, with strong horizontal banding along the exterior sides of the auditorium. By contrast, a cantilevered canopy is featured by the entrances, which are also framed by vertical channeling with two black marble columns rising to the roof line. The entrance leads to a nautical themed interior in the Art Deco style thanked to chrome trimmings. The Art Deco style makes extensive use of concealed lightning and the interior is decorated with columns and scallop shells that burst into sculptured fountains at the ceiling. With a capacity is 2,305 including standing spaces, the theatre is one of the largest in the West End.

At its beginnings the theatre was a cinema but it was finally closed in November 1975 with a double bill of Peter Cushing in The Legend of the Werewolf and Adrienne Corri in Vampire Circus. Today, the Broadway production of Wicked is played here and has a great success.
