Arbatskaya

Arbatskaya is a station on Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, line 3 of the Moscow Metro, in Russia, alongside Kiyevskaya Smolenskaya.
It was built in 1953 to replace the old parallel section of track. The old station had been damaged by a German bomb in 1941, so the new one was made deeper in order to serve as a refuge in case of an atomic bomb attack. The old section was reopened after five years, creating a confusing situation, since the two pairs of stations bared the same name.
Arbatskaya was designed by L.M. Polyakov, V.V. Pelevich and Yu.P. Zenkevich Arbatskaya is very large and deep (41 meters below the ground level). With a wharf of 250 meters it is the second largest in Moscow. The main tunnel is elliptical in cross section, which differs from the typical circular design. The station has low square pillars covered in red marble and a high vaulted ceiling decorated with ornaments, floral motifs and chandeliers.
From this station, passengers can transfer to Biblioteka Imeni Lenina, Sokolnicheskaya Line, Alexandrovsky Sad Line Filyovskaya and on Borovitskaya Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya. The closest airports to the station are: Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo, about 27 km away.

Such are: Tretyakov Art Gallery, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, The Kremlin, the beautiful Red Square, Saint Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum.
