Archives New Zealand is the main department of the government of the country of New Zealand that gathers and conserves the records and data of the history of the nation. It is known in Maaori as the Te Rua Mahara o te Kawanatanga. It is found along Mulgrave Street in Thorndon in Wellington, which is currently the capital city of New Zealand. It was formed in the year 2000 after the National Archives was separated from the Department of Internal Affairs.

The Archives houses approximately eighty kilometers of New Zealand government records that dates back into the early nineteenth century. Family records are also available at the archives, enabling locals to trace back the history of their family tree to its early beginnings. The well-preserved and protected documents held in protection provide basis for several legislations to be carried out legally today.

The Archives have a Constitution Room which is able to display documents and historical records such as the Treaty of Waitangi, The 1835 Declaration of Independence of the Northern Chiefs and the 1893 Women’s Suffrage Petition.
