Are Ostersund Airport (ICAO: ESNZ), previously known as Ostersund-Froson Airport, is a Swedish airfield located about 11 km West of Ostersund and 94 km east of Are. The airport opened in 1958. Are Ostersund airport is the 9th largest airport in Sweden. In 2005, it had about 390,000 passengers. Scheduled airlines and destinations include: City Airline (Gothenburg-Landvetter), Flyjämtland (Stockholm-Bromma), Nextjet (Luleå, Stockholm-Bromma, Umeå) and Scandinavian Airlines System (Stockholm-Arlanda). In addition, several charters operate seasonal flights from Are Ostersund: Atlasjet (Antalya), Balkan Holidays (Bourgas), Bulgaria Air (Bourgas), Novair (Crete, Rhodos) and Severstal Aircompany (Moscow). The Essence of Jamtland shop is located at the airport, as is a restaurant. No cash or ATM machines are available. Avis, Hertz and Eurocar operate auto rental concessions. Airport Coaches (Stadsbussarna) run from the airport to downtown Östersund. The trip takes about 15 minutes. In the wintertime, Åre Flygtransfer, connects passengers with SAS and flyNordic flights from Are. Seven hotels are located approximately 7 km from the airport.
