Arena da Baixada, formally called Joaquim Americo Gumaraes Stadium, is one of the most modern stadiums in all of Latin America. It’s located in the Agua Verde district in Curitiba, Brazil, capital of the province of Parana. The stadium was founded in 1914. It serves primarily as a football stadium although there is an indoor arena as well. The stadium seats a maximum capacity of 25,272 people and is owned by the Clube Atletico Paranaense. The stadium will host games for the 2014 Brazil World Cup and is thus being expanded to be able to hold over 40,000 people. The stadium was decommissioned during the 1970s, but reopened in 1984 only to be demolished in 1997 to make way for a new arena. Today it is nicknamed the Kyocera Arena.
