Lake Argentino is one of the jewels of Patagonia and the largest freshwater lake in Argentina. Surrounded by the glaciers of Los Glacieres National Park, the lake itself is the endpoint for much glacier melting, as well as waters from Lake Viedma and other mountain streams which converge here. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.

Many tourists looking to visit the lake and see the glaciers will fly into the El Calafate Airport, which has regular service to Buenos Aires. A large number of buses also travel to Calafate from different domestic destinations.
