The Armand Hammer Museum, also known as the Hammer Museum, is a UCLA operated cultural center, established in 1990 and located on the main Los Angeles thoroughfare Wilshire Boulevard. The museum is known for its collection of works by French satirist Honore Daumier, its contemporary art, collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, and small fine art collection. Founded by Armand Hammer to display publicly his personal art collection, although unfortunately Mr. Hammer passed away just 15 days after the museumís public opening. The Hammer museum is a center for artistic display and development, offering ten laboratory-like Hammer Projects each year to area artists, and presenting historical and contemporary art exhibits, in addition to public programming. The onsite theater, the Billy Wilder Theater, is the venue for the UCLA Film & Television Archiveís cinematheque. The museum is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 7pm, Thursdays from 11am to 9pm, and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. Admissions are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and free for all students, visitors under 17 (with an adult chaperone), and all visitors on Thursdays.
