The Art Gallery of South Australia is one of the more popular tourist destinations in Adelaide. It is located in the cultural boulevard in Adelaide’s North Terrace. About 510,000 tourists annually come to visit this part of Australia. As a result, it has become the site of some of the Australia biggest art collections.

Previously know as the National Gallery of South Australia, it was later renamed in 1967 as the Art Gallery of South Australia. Founded in 1881, it is currently home to some of the greatest works of art from Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Its permanent exhibitions include paintings, sculptures, drawings, and many other forms of art from all over the world. One of its most popular exhibitions is the Australian art series from the time of the first European settlers.

Thoroughly intensive guided tours at this gallery are free of charge and are held at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the North Terrace entrance area. A restaurant and book shop is also available and is open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily.
