This exciting museum houses a varied collection of local Ceara arts and handicrafts, from wooden sculptures to weaving looms to puppets to traditional musical instruments. The native people of this area of Brazil are known for their colorful, handworked items, such as mamulengo puppets. Mamulengo puppetry arts are probably some of the most well-known examples of typical Brazilian art expression. The name 'mamulengo' is a hybrid of 'mao' and 'molenga,' which means a soft or floppy hand. Afro-Brazilian metal sculptures speak to the areas rich ethnic history, while cordel (woodblock) prints showcase impressive technical skills.
