Asheville City Hall

Hotels near Asheville City Hall, Asheville, United States .

North Carolina’s Asheville City Hall is a magnificent specimen of Art Deco architecture. Designed by architect Douglas D. Ellington, the eight storey building was completed in 1928. It was originally supposed to be part of a joint City County Plaza development and today the building stands as a monument to the city’s great aspirations back in the day. Although, the county and city officials could not come to an agreement on an architect and design, Ellington’s building won out. He later designed other important buildings in the area such as the First Baptist Church. The City Hall is pink in hue to represent Asheville’s rosy clay soil. The octagonal roof is tiled in red. There are pink marble piers with green and gold feather motifs. Inside, the 1920’s art deco theme continues. Visitors can see the building weekdays from 8:30-5pm. Nearby hotels include the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton and the Princess Anne Hotel.
