Ashland Henry Clay Estate

Hotels near Ashland Henry Clay Estate, Lexington (Kentucky), United States .

The Ashland Henry Clay Estate is a National Historic Landmark honoring the plantation once owned by Kentucky statesman, Henry Clay. The estate is located in Lexington, Kentucky in the central Bluegrass region of the state. Henry Clay and his family occupied the estate until his death in 1852; Ashland remained in the Clay family until it was purchased by Kentucky University in 1866.

Henry Clay was commonly referred to as “The Great Compromiser” for his skillful negotiating qualities and, not surprisingly, was one of the most successful attorneys of his era. Clay also dedicated nearly fifty years in public service as a Representative, Senator and Secretary of State.

The Ashland Estate is open to visitors daily and offers guided tours of the 18-room mansion. Guests may also tour the outbuildings, walk through the gardens or browse through the Museum Store. House tour hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 and Sunday from 1:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 18. For more information about the estate and about Henry Clay, visit http://www.henryclay.org.
