Aspen's Filmfest has long been one of the most important events on the independent film scene. This fall, the festival celebrates 31 years of independent film screenings. The Filmfest, which occurs annually in early fall, will be held September 30-October 4, 2009. While the festival has always showcased local directors and actors, it is perhaps best known for displaying up-and-coming filmmakers and directors from all over the world. Many of the topics covered are often controversial, but one thing that is always agreed upon is the quality and ingenuity of all of the work displayed. Each year the Filmfest awards the directors and actors who gave exceptional performances or produced extraordinary work. This year's recipients include Paula Patton and Jason Reitman.
