The Athens city hall is a severe morphological three floored building. The main feature which you see at the entrance of the building is the marble propylon. The ground floors are also made up of marble with ironworks decorations in between. The entrance gate door frame is made of marble and has a marble window frame. The cornice separates all the floors. Marble balcony is the next most important feature of the polished surface.

Greece's National Bank gave a loan of 130,000 drachmas to the Athens city. Soon it was decided to construct a Municipal Mansion at the end portion which is on the west side of Athena street. Architect P. Kalakos was given the complete architectural study (when P.Kyriakou was a mayor).The construction work started in October 1872 and was completed in around two years in May 1874.
