Atlantic City Gardner’s Basin. Located on a protected stretch of waters off the boardwalk, Gardner’s Basin offers an alternative look at Atlantic City. Within this area, visitors can take boat tours, head off on fishing excursions, go shopping for souvenirs, dine at the restaurants or relax in the bars and ice cream parlors. Home to the Atlantic City Aquarium, the basin was until the sixties an undeveloped stretch of bay area. Public cars and cabs can take visitors from the main drags down to Gardner’s Basin. Originally the stomping grounds of rumrunners and commercial fishing boats, the basin is now an area for families to get away from the gambling and hubbub of Atlantic City proper.

Many accommodations are available, across the inlet in Trump Marina Hotel, at Howard Johnson Atlantic City Downtown (a short drive away) or in the Travelodge Atlantic City right at the end of the boardwalk, as a budget option.
