The Atomium is a mesmerizing piece of architecture which was designed by the renowned engineer Andre Waterkeyn for the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels in Belgium.

The structure, which is prominent in the center of a busy street is a crystal molecule of an iron atom that has been magnified several billions of times. It has nine huge balls that stand for the nine provinces of Belgium, attached together with the help of steel rods.

Each of the spheres is 18 metres in diameter and the top one gives a breath-taking view of Brussels. Although three of the spheres have been closed to visitors for a while, the others can be reached by escalator.

Bruparck was one of the additions made to the city of Brussels at the time of the World Exhibition. Although some of the additions were later removed this park was kept and although it was unused for a while it has been thrown open to the public again with plenty of fun things to do.

Mini Europe is a popular attraction in the park in the center of Brussels. Imagine standing close to most of Europe’s major sights in miniature. All the family is sure to enjoy looking at the exhibits which are crafted so beautifully.

Don’t miss the Kinepolis Cinema which is found in Bruparck. It is one of the biggest cinemas in Belgium continuing the Belgian love for cinema. There is a wide and varied sequence of events here catering to foreign visitors and the young crowd especially during summer.

You must also visit the Saint Catherine Fish Market also known as Place Sainte-Catherine. If you want to tickle your palate you can find some of the best seafood restaurants here.
