The Auckland Art Gallery located on Wellesely and Kitchener Streets in Auckland, is the primary public gallery in the city. It contains the most extensive collection of art, both local and international, in the country. The gallery also frequently plays host to travelling exhibitions.

The gallery was completed in 1884 and was designed by architects Grainger and Charles D’Ebro. The gallery’s collection began with 53 paintings. Today, it has an artwork from both Pacific and European artists. Local artists are also represented in the Gallery. These artists include CF Goldie, Gretchen Albrecht, and Marti Friedlander.

The Auckland Art Gallery is open everyday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Christmas Day. A free tour of the collections is given out daily at 2 p.m.
