Just south of the campus of Tulane University, at the southeast corner of Audubon Park, the Audubon Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals, and the largest zoo in New Orleans. Audubon Park has been the home to animal exhibits since the World’s Fair in 1884, although the majority of the current Audubon Zoo was constructed in the early 20th Century. Today the zoo welcomes numerous local and out of town visitors annually.

Especially notable exhibits at the Audubon Zoo include the zoo’s two White Tigers, Rex and Zulu, the Louisiana Swamp Exhibit, where visitors can watch the gator feedings daily, and the Southern White Rhinos, of which only 160 are alive in captivity in the world. For children, Monkey Hill is a must-see, constructed to show New Orleans children what a hill looked like, and host to the traditional “Monkey Roll”, where kids roll down the grassy hill. Other attractions at the Audubon Zoo include the Endangered Species Carousel, the Safari Simulator Ride, and the Swamp Train.

The Audubon Zoo is located at 6500 Magazine Street, in Uptown New Orleans, and on-site parking is available, free of charge to all zoo visitors. The zoo is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 A.M. until 5 P.M. Admission ranges from $8 - $13, with many combination packages involving admission to the IMAX, Aquarium, and Insectarium available.
