One museum that is a popular landmark in Bonn is the August-Macke-Haus which is dedicated to the expressionist painter August Macke (1887-1914). The house that now forms a museum was also once his home. As one of the leading members of the German Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter, The Blue Rider, August Macke spent most of his productive years in the house producing over 400 pieces of art that he drew from the inspiration he saw from the house windows. Visitors can explore the home that once belonged to August-Macke and his wife Elizabeth Gerhardt while wondering through the current exhibitions that are on display inside the museum. One current exhibition that is on until January 17th 2010 is called 'My Second Self'. The exhibition focuses on Elizabeth at first a girlfriend who quickly became August-Macke's wife, as well as his favourite muse in life. The house which is maintained in pristine condition is a historical landmark that has survived the passages of time as well as World Wars. Since its opening in 1991, the museum has become a well known establishment on Rhenish Expressionism. Bonn is a tourist hub that has a lot to offer for all tastes, ages and lifestyles.
