Äußere Neustadt

Äußere Neustadt is a neighborhood in Dresden, Germany also known as Antonstadt after Antony, the King of Saxony.

Today this area is known for its thriving clubs and bars. The Äußere Neustadt is bounded by Bautzener Strasse and Albertplatz at the south, the street Bischofsweg at the north, Konigsbruger Strasse to the west and the Priebnitz River to the north.

The streets remained mostly like in 1745 when they were originally laid out. In 1839 here was opened the first milk chocolate factory. This area boomed in the 19th century when most of the actual buildings were erected.

The neighborhood has a lot of attractions for visitors: The Martin Luther Church, which is an example of historicism with its exterior full of Romanesque arches and Gothic Proportions. The church ha a 81 meters high tower. Pfund’s diary is another attraction from this neighborhood and one of Dresden’s most popular tourist attractions. It is known as the world’s most beautiful dairy, being decorated with neo-Renaissance porcelain tiles made by Villeroy & Boch. The Old jewish cemetery is located near Martin Luther Platz and it is the oldest Jewish cemetery in Saxony, being established in 1751. Neustadt also contains a special attraction for children, the Panama Adventure Playground. Here children can interact with horses, sheep and other animals. With an extremely high concentration of bars, clubs and cafes, Neustadt is believed to have one of the liveliest bar scenes in Germany.

Äußere Neustadt is close to the second largest train station in Dresden, Bahnhof Dresden-Neustadt and a number of tramlines are serving this neighborhood.
