Australian National Korean War Memorial

Hotels near Australian National Korean War Memorial, Canberra, Australia .

Among the museums in Canberra, one of the known sights is the Australian National Korean War Memorial. This is a museum that also serves as memorial for the 17,000 Australians who played a part during the Korean War that began on June 25, 1950. While not all of the Australians survived the war, the Australian National Korean War Memorial serves as a commemoration and a way to honor those who survived and died during the said war.

The museum is said to be designed as an interpretation of the war or the characterization of that particular period in history. A lot of grey and white tones are used as well as some gravel and granite. These factors recall the terrain and harsh climate which the Australians had to survive in. For most of the survivors, the climate and overall environment has left quite an impression in their hearts and minds.

Figures of note include the figures on the two sides of the memorial which represent the Australian sailors, soldiers, and airmen who had served in Korea at the time of the war. The ground breaking of the memorial/museum was held on September 17, 1999 by the President of the Republic of Korea, Kim Dae-Jung.
