AWD-Dome

AWD-Dome is a multi-functional hall located in Bremen, Germany. The Bremen Town Hall was built between 1961 and 1964 following a competition won by the Viennese architect Roland Rainer. The draft contains a rare structure, which was removed in the course of the 2004th renovation. The abutments of the suspenders are also an important landmark of Bremen that has been preserved.
In 2001/2002, the town hall was expanded by the addition of Hall 7 and subsequently other warehouses. The major reconstruction took place in 2004 and the city hall became architecturally controversial: the prominent pillar of the supporting structure remained outwardly preserved, but lost its function. This restructure provided the town hall of Bremen about 11,000 chairs and 15,300 unseated positions. Because of the drastic changes in appearance and structural design of the hall, Roland Rainer rejected further mention of his name as an architect of the hall. On 5 May 2009 it was announced that AWD will retire as a title sponsor at the end of 2009 and the future name of the hall is still open for the time being.
The hall is known to have hosted many concerts, exhibitions and, especially, sport events. Therefore, it housed the table tennis World Cup 2006, the preliminary rounds of the 2007 Men's Handball Championship, the WWE Wrestle Mania Revenge Tour 2007 and the Davis Cup Quarterfinals 2008.
The original capacity of the hall was only 3,500 seats. Now, the full complex can host 14,000 spectators, at handball matches 9,200 and at tennis 7,600.
