Visitors to San Antonio's Riverwalk who are looking for something a little different than the numerous popular bars and cafes should head to Aztec On the River. Since 1926, musicians, theatre troupes, and others have been putting on shows and impressing the locals and travelers on the Aztec's stage.

A beautiful and extravagant building with many wonderful murals, beautiful sculptures, and one of the largest chandelier in the whole state, the Aztec On the River closed it doors in 1984, a shadow of what it once was. Thanks to restoration efforts by the city, the Aztec On the River reopened in 2009, renewed and rejuvenated.

Today, Aztec On the River is a jack of many trades. In addition to housing many live performances by famous and renowned musicians, including country music legends, the space also has restaurants, a bar, and different stores on the ground level, right on San Antonio's Riverwalk. Among the stores are one devoted to selling wines from Texas and a men's salon. Agave Bar, the one bar on the premises, has one of the most extensive tequila bars in the whole country.

Open daily, Aztec On the River is just a short walk from a number of different hotels, including the Holiday Inn Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk, the Drury Inn River Walk, and the Hotel Valencia San Antonio Riverwalk.
