Bab Al Bahrain, which translates to the Gate of Bahrain, marks the main entrance to the Manama souq. It has a monument that consists of a large arch, below of which runs a road that is often referred to as the Manama souq entrance.

This landmark, built in the 1940s by the British, is nestled in Manama’s Central Business District. It used to be located at the water’s edge but extensive reclamation were performed in the recent years and now the place is a 10-minute walk from the edge of the sea.

Sir Charles Belgrave originally designed Bab Al Bahrain in 1945, which used to be the residence of government offices that overlooked the sea. Since then, the sea has been reclaimed which now houses the Government Avenue, a new highway, and the Bahrain Financial Harbor. All of which were built on the reclaimed land. Today, Bab Al Bahrain has become a tourist attraction featuring a tourist information office and a handicrafts shop.
