Famous for a number of reasons, Leipzig is the city that many will associate with Johann Sebastian Bach. In the years 1723 to 1750, the German composer worked in Leipzig at the church, as director of church music, where his remains lie.

For those interested in finding out about Johann Sebastian Bach, there is the Bach Museum. The museum which was the Bach family home, stands opposite the St Thomas Church and is devoted to detailing the composer's life and work.

On display are musical instruments which date to Bach's time, original manuscripts and documents.

The museum is currently undergoing renovations which will provide the museum with a new look. Scheduled to reopen on the 20th of March 2010, the new Bach House museum will provide visitors with a treasure chamber which will hold precious objects.

Special exhibitions will also be present which will house an organ console of an instrument examined by Bach himself in 1743. There will also be a casket with relics from Bach's tomb and a cash box.

Leipzig has much to offer its visitors. From the St. Thomas Church, to the Bach House, to Leipzig Botanical Gardens which is the oldest botanical garden in Germany, there will be something for every taste.

Tuesday to Sunday from 10am - 18:00

Admissions:

Adults €6.00. Reduced €4.00 for students, apprentices, unemployed persons, severely handicapped persons and holders of the Leipzig Pass or Leipzig Card. Children under 16 for free. Groups of more than 10 €5.00 per person. Annual ticket €15.00.

Free admission on the first Tuesday of every month.
