Located about 90 kilometers from Salzburg is Bad Gastein, the spa town of Austria. Linked by train from Salzburg, this spa town is right in the center of the National Park Hohe Tauern. Around 1940, a couple of miners started mining activities south of Badg Gastein near the Tauern window. While they failed to strike gold, they seemed to have been cured of rheumatism. Since then people around the world come to visit this spa that is supposed to cure most rheumatic ailments.

Typically, once you are in the spa, a doctor will do a physical and then you can take a special modern train that will take you inside the mountain. The temperature in this environment is around 37 centigrade to 42 centigrade with humidity ranging from 40% to 90 %. Also present is elevated levels of the radon, the inert gas. The treatment is considered to cure ailments like Ankylosing Spondylitis, Arthrosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, psoriasis and other skin ailments like neurodermatitis and sclerodermas, respiratory disorders like sinusitis, chronic bronchitis and bronchial asthma and other allergies. It is said that over 3000 patients suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis visit this place to seek relief. Treatment in the Radon galleries of Bad Gastein can provide relief from pain up to 9 month.

If you are unsure, there is a sneak peek trial trip to the radon galleries on Tuesdays and Thursday during summer and on Tuesdays and Fridays during winters between 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
