Badestrand is the generic name for a bathing beach in Norway. Oslo sits at the head of a Fjord and in summer the local people love to visit the beaches, which are often very rocky or grassed, rather than sand. Visitors should be aware that Norwegians like to strip off, so most beaches have large nudist areas. There are several to choose from such as the Huk Beach on Bygdoy peninsula, which may be reached via bus 30A, and Hovedoya Beach on Hovedoya Island (take boats 92-93), where there are many walking trails and a Cistercian Monastery.

Oslo is the capital city of Norway, built in 1048 by King Harald III. Fire destroyed most of the buildings in 1642, and the city was re built by King Christian VI. Oslo is the cultural, scientific, economic and governmental hub of Norway. Attractions include numerous museums, the Chrisitanan Torv Square, which has many historic buildings, the Vigeland Park and the St Hanshaugen Park, which has a tower at the top, and where many outdoor music events are held. There is good access to the countryside via the suburban railway system, and the city runs eight swimming pools.
