The Baggersee is a lake in the southeast of Innsbruck, and is the second largest in the city. It is used by locals and visitors for leisure purposes. In summer the water can be as warm as 24 degrees, so the lake is popular with bathers. All bathing is charged, but the proceeds are used for the upkeep of the lake and its environment. Other leisure activities include, volleyball, badminton and wind surfing, whilst in the winter the lake is popular with bird-watchers.

Innsbruck is the capital city of the Tyrol part of Austria and lies in a broad valley surrounded by high mountains of the Alps. The name Innsbruck literally means bridge over the River Inn. The city is mainly known as a winter sports centre, is very popular with skiers and hosted the 1964 and 1976 winter Olympics. The old town centre has many historical buildings, including one called Golden Roof; built in the 1500s the roof was covered with fire gilded copper tiles for King Maximilian I. Innsbruck Castle (Schloss) sits a little out of the city high up in the hills, whilst there are many museums, an alpine Zoo (Alpenzoo), a casino and golf course. The nearest airport is Krannebitten, a little less than three miles away. Innsbruck has a good railway system.

There is a plethora of hotels, but the Best Western (www.bestwestern.com) has four stars, is family run, and lies near the park, the station and the old town. It offers a restaurant, lounge, bar, Spa and Conference Centre. A room here costs from 75 Euros per night. The Grand Hotel Europa has five stars and offers a restaurant; the Ski Bus stops directly outside the hotel. A room here costs from 105 Euros per night.
