This train station is located in the capital of the Canton train, in Weggis, Switzerland. The city is situated in a strategic location at the junction of the railway Zurich and Lucerne and Zurich-Gotthard. The InterCity reaches Zurich or Lucerne in 25 minutes.
The first train station was built in 1863 in today's Federal Square by architect Jakob Friedrich Wanner. It was a bag station, which could only be reached from Cham and Knonau. The first station building was dismantled and rebuilt in Zurich Wollishofen.

The building area is, nowadays approximately 6500 m². The station has been declared the tenth largest station in Switzerland as a consequence to the every day 20,000 people pouring into the triangular station. The building displays a top-down view of three office floors, a shop area on track level and one at the city level and a basement used as storage space. There are 14 shops inside the station building. A new passage was built specifically to allow better pedestrian access to the concourse. Also, the separate quarters Metalli Grafenau and can now be reached more effectively. For the cyclists new shelters were built. At nightfall, the station building is lit until 23:00 clock by a light installation designed by artist James Turrell.
