Bahrain Airport is an international airport located in Muharraq, on the northern tip of Bahrain. The airport is known for having obtained a three star rating from Skytrax’s airport grading exercises. Bahrain Airport was also established as the Persian Gulf’s first international airport.

The airport had a long history, from the arrival of its first airline from London through the World War II. During World War II, Bahrain Airport was used by the United States Army Air Force Air Transport Command. At the end of World War II, the Royal Air Force maintained military installation at the airfield known as RAF Muharraq. Over the years, Bahrain Airport underwent several renovations and expansions which boosted the operations and worldwide visibility of the airport. It was one of the airports in the Persian Gulf that reached international stage. It was one of the most modern and advanced airport in the Persian Gulf as early as the 1950s. Plans to expand the airport are now underway and will eventually triple the passenger capacity to 27 million a year upon implementation. Now, there are a total of 38 airlines servicing BIA, both cargo and passenger airlines.
