Currently, Bajpe Airport is more formally known as The Mangalore International Airport. It is an International Airport serving the area of Mangalore City in exotic India. The airport was opened in 1951 and was given the name of the Bajpe Aerodome. It is about twenty kilometers from the city center. The airport is currently expanding its efforts to become one of the best international airports there is with two runways that are currently being put into operation.

The first international flight that landed on the airport was on October 3, 2006 by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. Several airlines have operations in the airport as well. These include Indian Airlines, Jet Airways Konnect and the Kingfisher Airlines. These airlines cater to domestic flights to Bangalore, Calicut, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, Goa and Trivandrum
.
The Air India Express is the only airline which caters to international flights to the airport. These are flight to and from Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait and Muscat.

Mangalore City is bound by the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghat Mountians on both sides. Hotels near the airport are the Ginger Mangalore, Summer Sands and The Gateway Hotel Old Port Rd.
