These gardens were restored in 1995 by Sir John and Lady Nugent with help from The Great Gardens of Ireland restoration programme. A substantial walled garden with some significant roses, shrubs and climbers are included in the gardens. The walled garden covers more than 1 hectare and is divided into four walled sections. A grass tennis court, a lilly pond, herbaceous borders, a herb and soft fruit garden are on view. A botanist’s paradise, the picturesque lakeside walk is home for many rare wild flowers which makes it a superb habitat for butterflies and other interesting fauna.
In this gardens are held a lot of festivals, being probably one of the best festival sites from Ireland. Artists such Kenny Rogers, Van Morrison, Pet Shop Boys have been housed by Ballinlough Castle Gardens.
Not just the gardens but also the Ballinlough Castle worth a visit. It is a hidden gem located in the countryside of Ireland, just one hour from Dublin. An interesting fact is that this castle is the home for the same family for more than 400 years.
The best way to reach the Ballinlough Castle is by bus or by renting a car. A single ticket cost around 15 pounds and the bus will drop the tourists to the gates of the castle.
