The Baltimore Amtrak Station (station code BAL) is Pennsylvania Station, commonly known as Penn Station, one of the largest and most impressive train stations in the region. It was built in a grand Beaux-Arts style in 1911 for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Originally known as Union Station, the name was changed to incorporate it within the chain of stations (the Penn Stations in Newark and New York). The station serves a number of Amtrak lines: the Acela Express, Cardinal Hoosier State, the Carolinian Piedmont, the Crescent, Northeast Regional, Silver Service and the Vermonter, as well as connecting with all major forms of public transportation in the Baltimore area. The station is located at 1515 North Charles Street and has the options of baggage help, checked baggage services, restrooms, telephones, ATM machines and electronic ticketing services. The station is only closed for service briefly in the early morning hours (usually from 1:30 am until 3 am) but otherwise is open seven days a week nearly without close. Ticket windows are open from 5 am until 9:30 pm every day of the week. There are waiting areas inside for ticketed passengers.

Penn Station is located in the heart of downtown Baltimore and many accommodations options are available. The 4 East Madison Inn is a great place with a historical feel. The Biltmore Suites Hotel (on W Madison) is another excellent option.
