Known by locals as Institut Teknologi Bandung (TIB), Bandung Institute of Technology is a coeducational research university that is hailed as one of the country’s centers of excellence in science, technology and art. Founded in the 2nd of March 1959, the institute’s main campus is currently standing at the site of the former engineering schools in Indonesia. The main campus, located in the north of downtown Bandung, as well as its other campuses covers a total land area of 770,000 square meters. The ITB campus features a mix of traditional and modern architectural designs that is highlighted with the beautiful surrounding lawns and gardens.

ITB features workshops, studios, laboratories, lecture rooms, sports facilities, student activity center and an art gallery. Additionally, the institute runs seven academic support facilities which include the Central Library (situated on campus), Sports Center, Language Center, and the Bosscha Observatory (located in Lembang 11 km north of Bandung).

Admissions to ITB are conducted nationwide through exclusive entrance examinations. ITB is among the top choice of college applicants in Indonesia. It is also a member of LAOTSE, which is an international network of leading universities in Europe and Asia that exchange students and senior scholars. The university is also affiliated to AUN (Asean University Network) and ASAIHL (Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning).
