The Barnyard Theatre was born in 1996 and started its humble beginnings right at the magnificent Plettenberg Bay in South Africa. Louis was the founder and producer of the theater. After a few years after he and his family moved into a dairy farm, Louis built an American-style wooden barn which was later turned into a theater. It featured an old-world atmosphere along with heavy wooden beams, horseshoe gallery, wood chipped floors, enormous tables and welcoming lanterns. All the members of Louis' family were hands-on with the theater operation.

A show entitled "An Evening of Love Songs" was the very first production that was hosted in the theater. Luckily, it turned out to be a huge success and since then people were hooked into this little theater. With its growing popularity, Louis decided to expand the theater and he also began negotiating with different artists to perform on stage.

Not long after, other Barnyard theaters have mushroomed in other locations. This prompted the beginning of successful working relationships with various performing artists as well as lasting friendships. As the barnyard continued to grow, Louis decided to join forces with Duck Chowles (a brilliant musician that shares the same passion with Louis).

Presently, 12 Barnyard theaters are already operating in South Africa but all of them retained the rustic quaint charm of the little Barnyard Theatre in Plett. Today, the theater offers an indoor venue wherein tourists are offered with top-class entertainment along with exquisite restaurants that provide diverse treats. It is currently located at Askop Road in the Crags near Plettenberg Bay.
