The Basilica di San Zeno is also known as the San Zeno Maggiore, and is situated in Verona, Italy. It is visited by many tourists as its crypt is said to be the marriage place of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Saint Zeno died in 380AD and his tomb, after several moves, now rests in the crypt at the present St Zeno's Church. In 967 the current Romanesque building was constructed, but in January 1117 an earthquake destroyed parts of the city, so the Church was restored in 1138 in the Gothic style. San Zeno's façade, built of cream coloured, porous Tufa has become the model for all other basilicas in Verona. Unusually, the bell-tower is separate, standing 72m high and built in the Romanesque/Gothic style, it was begun in 1045.

Verona is a city in the Veneto region of northern Italy. It is a major tourist destination due to its artistic heritage. The city is the setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and a balcony erroneously claims a connection with the families in the play. A statue of Juliet stands beneath the balcony, whilst a short passageway leading to it is lined with paper notes, the graffiti of lovers visiting the site. One breast of the statue is worn shiny as lovers touch it for luck. Verona is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its many monuments, such as the Castelvecchio Museum. A museum of sculpture, statues and paintings set within the castle dating back to the 1300s, and designed by the architect Carlo Scarpa. Verona hosts many fairs and music events throughout the year, for example the Opera set in the Roman Arena.
