The Basilica di Santa Croce, or Church of the Holy Cross is the principal Franciscan Church in Florence, Italy and is situated in the Piazza di Santa Croce around 800 metres southeast of the Duomo, Florence's cathedral. The Basilica is the largest Franciscan church in the world and its most notable feature is its 16 chapels. The 19th century Neogothic façade was designed by Niccole Matus who worked a prominent Star of David into the design. Matus wished to be buried under the Church, but being Jewish was buried under the porch, not within the church's walls.

It is regarded by many as the art capital of Italy and is arguably the best-preserved Renaissance city in the world.
