The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is the cathedral of Florence. Building began in 1296 and was structurally complete by 1436. Until modern times, the dome was the largest in the world, and remains the largest brick dome ever constructed. The Church was built on the site of an earlier cathedral, the Santa Reparata.
