The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, known simply as the Frari is located in the San Polo district of Venice. It is one of the city's three notable churches, built in the Italian Gothic style. However as with many Venetian churches the exterior is plainly decorated. Inside there is a large oil painting by Titian, The Assumption of The Virgin, this painting is the largest altarpiece in the city. The Church houses many more works of art.

The buildings rest on closely spaced wooden piles and are often flooded by the autumn and spring tides. The city is served by the Marco Polo Airport, around eight kilometres north of the city. Train takes four hours to Rome and two and a half to Milan. There are no cars on Venice.
