1st Mariner Arena, previously known as Baltimore Arena and the Baltimore Civic Center, is an indoor stadium located on Hopkins Place and Baltimore Street, near Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Dating back to 1962, the arena was built on the site of Old Congress Hall, a meeting place from colonial Maryland. The arena seats around 14,000 people and hosts about 800,000 annually. Famous past guests have included the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley and Luciano Pavarotti. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a famous speech in the arena in 1966. More recently, the arena has been the home of indoor soccer and lacrosse teams, as well as the site of WWE professional wrestling events. Performers as diverse as Bruce Springsteen, Jay Z, Beyonce and Miley Cyrus have played here since 2000 or are scheduled to perform. 1st Mariner Arena has parking available in the vicinity (up to 23,000 spaces) and can be reached via public transportation on light rail, subway and buses. There is wheelchair accessible seating and parking available at the arena. Tickets can be purchased at the 1st Mariner Arena box office from Monday to Friday 10 am to 5:30 pm, or from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. During any day of an event the box office will open at 10 am and close one hour after the event begins. Accommodations in the area are extensive, as the Inner Harbor of Baltimore is one the biggest tourist destinations in the area.
