Basilica of Sant' Apollinare Nuovo

Hotels near Basilica of Sant' Apollinare Nuovo, Ravenna, Italy .

The Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, Ravenna was built in the first quarter of the sixth century and was renovated in 561. It was originally dedicated to the Arian faith, but Byzantine relics of Saint Apollinare were relocated there in 856. The apse and the atrium have been renovated several times, destroying many of the historic mosaics, particularly those of the Arian faith. The entrance of the church is preceded by a marble portico dating back to the 16th century, and to the right of this stands a 10th century bell tower.
